At Google I/O 2012, Google unveiled the Nexus 7 tablet, running Android 4.1 “Jelly Bean”. Nexus 7 is built by ASUS and the first 7-inch tablet with a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor that includes a 12-core GPU.
The tablet is 0.41 inch thik, has 1280×800, display covered by scratch resistant Corning glass and weighs 340 grams. It also comes with all popular Google Apps – like Gmail, Chrome, Google+ and YouTube.
Nexus 7 has two storage variants i.e. 8GB and 16GB; is priced at $199 and $249 respectively. The tablet also features 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, and a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera.

The tablet will go on sale directly through Google Play and is avilable for pre-order in select countries.
As the Tablet business is much mature than smartphones; with Nexus 7, the search giant is definitely targeting the low budget tablets only.
Personally I find this an impressive small-screen tablet but its far away from Apple iPad and recently announced Microsoft’s Surface tablet.
